Digital File - Printing To the Digital File

Manage Documents by Printing To the Digital File
The Print to Digital File feature allows you to manage documents by printing directly to a contact's digital file from within any software application. The document is converted to a .PDF file format and securely stored in the client's digital file.

To print documents to the digital file

  • Open a digital file. (A contact's digital file must be open in order to print directly to it.)
  • Open Notepad (a text file application on every Windows PC). From the Start menu, select Programs, then Accessories, and then Notepad. This will create a new Notepad file.
  • Type "This is a new file".
  • From the File menu, select Print.
  • Choose "PortalsXpress Digital File" from the Select Printer location in the Print dialog and then click the Print button.
  • Select a folder in the digital file when the Select Print/Scan Destination dialog appears and click OK.
  • Notice that the printed document is stored in the digital file as a .PDF file with today's date as the title.
  • Rename the .PDF file by right-clicking on the newly created file and select Rename. The file name will highlight and display a blinking cursor at the end of the file name. Type in "Notepad File.pdf" and press the Enter key. The printed document is now stored in the digital file as Notepad File.pdf.

You can easily manage your documents with PortalsXpress by printing directly to a digital file.

Note: You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to view .PDF files. This feature not currently available in Windows Vista.
